You heard that right, which makes it very simple and easy to make. Loved by kids of any age, everywhere, and should be included just for them!
These sweet little gems can be "dressed" for many celebrations and occasions. And, my favorite is Christmas meringues, it is so fun to make the most colorful appetizing treats for this special time of year.
You can even make chocolate meringue cookies or lemon meringue cookies, so easy and yummy!
About These Heavenly Confections
There are different types of meringues, Italian, French and Swiss.
The recipe here is for the French meringues and I'm sure you will find they are delicious.
They are not difficult to make but you need to bake them for quite some time with the oven slightly ajar! This is to prevent the meringues from cracking.
So because of this, please be careful if you have little ones around that they do not go near the oven!
Other Light Exquisite French Treats
There are so many lovely light French cookies to enjoy like Palmiers Glacés or Golden Palm Leaves in English and really are the most delicious cookies ever. And then, there is the Little French Madeleine Cookies which are a real traditional French classic cookie.
📖 Recipe
Meringue Cookies
Ingredients
- 4 egg whites with not even a speck of yolk, oil, or water
- 195 gram confectioners sugar icing sugar
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 200°F/95°C/Gas less than ¼ if possible.
- Whisk the egg whites in a large bowl (that is absolutely grease free) either with a hand whisk or electric whisk until they are foamy.
- Gradually whisk in the sugar and continue whisking until stiff and shiny.
- At this stage you can either put the mixture into a large icing bag with a star nozzle, or a round nozzle and pipe the mixture into individual shapes on a baking tray covered with parchment paper or foil.
- Alternatively, you can just use two spoons to spoon the mixture onto the tray into small round cloud-like shapes.
- Place the meringues in the pre-heated oven but put a wooden spoon handle in the doorway to prevent the oven door from closing completely.
- Bake the meringue clouds for about 2½ hours or until firm and dry. They should not color.
- They can be stored in an air-tight tin but I'm sure they won't be there long!
- You can also include a tiny drop of food coloring into the meringue mixture if you want a change and make them colorful.
- Great for the kids to experiment with. Decorate with dried fruit or cream or both for a real treat!
