💡 5 Tips For Making Homemade French Pâté, Terrines, Dips, & Spreads
- What Type Of Dish To Use For French Pâté
Traditionally, pâtés were made in an oval earthenware dish with straight sides, and the lid had a hole in it.
But you can use any ovenproof dish, and if it has no lid, just cover with a piece of foil while it is baking!
I often use a bread pan that is stoneware or heavy glass like Pyrex. - Lining The Pâté Dish
Quite often, the dishes are lined with bacon. Unsmoked or mild bacon is stretched with a knife until it is very thin and then used to line the dish. - How To Cook French Pâté
The casserole dish is placed in a baking tin filled with hot water, which reaches halfway up the dish while in the oven.
This is called 'au bain-marie' or simply a water bath. - How To Store French Pâté
Once cooked, your paté will keep for at least a week in the refrigerator.
It is always better to let it sit for about 3 days in the refrigerator before serving, for it to 'mature'.
Then take it out of the refrigerator about an hour before using.
This is great if you are preparing for a party, as you can make it a few days ahead of time! - How To Serve French Pâté
- Your delicious homemade pâté can be served for a formal meal as a starter.
- It can be sliced into thick slices.
- It can be left in the dish for people to help themselves with a spoon.
- Serve with hot thin toast or a crusty French loaf with butter or fresh veggies if you like.
- Your French pâté can also be sliced and served with a green salad for a light lunch or family supper. Wonderful!
